The Houston Brass Band announces its Fifth Annual Young Brass Soloist Competition

The Houston Brass Band will hold its Fifth Annual Young Brass Soloist Competition on Saturday, May 18, 2019 at Lanier Middle School (2600 Woodhead at Westheimer). Brass instrumentalists in grades seven through twelve are invited to perform for the Principal brass players of the Houston Symphony: Principal Trumpet Mark Hughes; Principal Horn William VerMeulen; Principal Trombone Allen Barnhill; and Principal Tuba David Kirk.

The top three performers in each division (Junior: seventh and eighth graders; Senior: ninth through twelfth) will receive cash prizes; first place winners of each division will solo with the Houston Brass Band.

Competitors will perform on the stage of the Lanier Middle School auditorium, with piano accompaniment, and will receive written comments from the panel of Houston Symphony Principals. We know of no other instrumental competition in the region which affords a young brass player this kind of opportunity.

This year’s event will be bigger and better than ever so, don’t forget to save the date!!
