Houston Youth Brass Band

A British-style brass band is an ensemble consisting only of players of brass and percussion instruments. Every member of the band plays an important role, with most instruments having only one player per part. The opportunities for technical excitement and lyrical blend available in British-brass band music provide an experience you can’t get in any other ensemble! The culture of the brass band is to make beautiful music, include students at any level of experience and ability, foster a community through music making, and work hard toward musical excellence.

The members of the Houston Brass Band are passionate about providing opportunities for student musicians in the metro area. In particular, we want to introduce as many brass and percussion students as possible to the excitement, challenge, and fun that is part of the British brass banding tradition. The inaugural Houston Youth Brass Band will be directed by Leo Hernandez, Director of Bands at Lanier Middle School.

When: November 2022 to May 2023 
Rehearsals: Monday evenings 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm

Auditions: ALL students in 6th – 12th grade are encouraged to join! We will have informal auditions during rehearsals to match students to the brass band seat best suited for them. The music we perform will be arranged to accommodate all students’ abilities.
