Selection of your solo piece
Our judges, each a Principal brass player with the Houston Symphony, are interested that you perform a piece that can be played with beautiful musicality. This consideration is more important than challenging technical components. Choose something beautiful, where you can sing!

Duration of your solo piece
Seniors – seven minutes maximum
Middle school – five minutes maximum
The Houston Brass Band will provide a piano accompanist. Because the accompanist will need to see their music, you are required to supply copy of the piano accompaniment score prior to the competition. Ideally this should be sent electronically to darren@houstonbrassband.org. If that is not possible please mail the score to our PO Box:
Houston Brass Band
PO Box 981011
Houston TX 77098-8011

Each student auditioning is required to supply four copies of their part to the judges prior to the competition, in order that the judges can make notations on the part, which will be returned to you.

You will receive an arrival time via email. You will check in at the band hall which is in the rear of Lanier Middle School.
