Announcing the 9th Annual 
Young Brass Solo Competition

The Houston Brass Band will be hosting its
9th Annual Young Brass Solo Competition on Saturday, April 27, 2024.

Registration for the event will open on February 19, 2024.

The Event

The 9th Annual Young Brass Solo Competition will include the following divisions:

Junior Division
grades 7-8
Senior Division
grades 9-12

The Judges

Your performance will be judged by a diverse panel of local professional musicians and a selection of Band Directors from the Houston Brass Band.

The Competition Details

Junior Division: grades 7 - 8
Senior Division: grades 9 - 12 or high school equivalent
Time Limit: 8 minutes
Registration: Opens February 19, 2024
Application Deadline: April 13, 2024
Fees: $20 junior division, $40 senior and online division.

The Prizes

Prizes will be awarded to the top soloists in each division.

The top three overall competitors in the Junior Division will each receive a trophy and prize money.

 - 1st place - $200
 - 2nd place - $125
 - 3rd place - $75

The top three overall competitors in the Senior Division will each receive a trophy and prize money.

 - 1st place - $400
 - 2nd place - $150
 - 3rd place - $100

In addition, the first-prize winner of the Senior Division will receive the Bridget Jensen Award for Excellence and will be invited to solo with the Houston Brass Band in concert at an agreed-upon venue during the
2024/2025 season.
